The 2024 - 2025 School Year is going to be AMAZING!
The school library program is critical to students' academic and personal success. The necessary skills for college and career ready students include literacy in a wide range of digital, visual, and textual formats. Effective school library media programs enable students to develop critical thinking skills to access, evaluate, synthesize, and apply information; make informed decisions; build a knowledge base; and value reading.
Utah Standards for Library Media were created by certified teacher librarians to support the integration of information literacy and media skills across the curriculum. They are intended to be taught, not in isolation, but in collaboration with classroom teachers. This collaboration will deepen student learning, foster independent reading, develop reading stamina, build task resiliency, strengthen text-dependent writing, and increase the students’ information literacy. The standards are organized into three clusters:
- Reading Engagement
- Research and Information
- Media Literacy

The students at Mountain View:
- Will attend library each week for 45 minutes with their class.
- Will have an assignment aligned to the common core to complete during library.
- Will receive a Library grade each term.
- Will READ books for enjoyment and for educational information.

8:15 - 2:35 - Library Class Scheduled Rotations
- You will attend library each week for 45 minutes with your class.
- You will have an assignment aligned to the common core to complete during library.
- Library grades are given each term.

Mountain View Elementary follows the Salt Lake School District policy for library book fines. The link is listed below. Mt. View Students can do one of the following options if they have lost a book.
- Pay for the lost book.
- Bring in a replacement book. The book can be the same book or another book of the same value.
- Work off the fine. Students will sign a contract and work during their recess time to pay off the book. A contract will be made and signed by the student, Miss Bundy, and the principal. Students can work off fines from September 1 - April 30.

What is SORA?

Students in Utah have access to Utah's Online School Library. While at school, students do not need a username and password to access the library, however when at home they will need a username and password to gain access. Contact Miss Bundy for the username and password for the 2024 - 2025 school year.

If you are a 4th or a 5th grade student, consider reading books from our Battle of the Books list for the 2024-2025 school year! We have a great selection of books from a variety of genres. You can locate them in the library, on SORA, or at the public library! Students read as many of the listed titles by February 2025. When you complete a book, you will need to fill out the below form or get a paper form in the library. Mt View will have a competition, and the top four students will represent our school at the district competition in March. Two alternates will be chosen in the case that one of the four team members is unable to attend. Miss Bundy will give you more details. Let's get reading and see how many books you can read this year!
AFTER SCHOOL Battle of the Books Reading Club
Students can attend Battle of the Books Reading Club on Tuesday: 2:45 - 3:15 - to exchange books, check out new books, and fill out the reading forms.
Fridays: 1:00 - 1:45 - to discuss the books with other BOB readers and teachers.

If you read 15 2024 - 2025 Beehive Books and fill out the form for each book, you can attend the pizza party in May. If you read 25 Beehive Books, you can bring a friend with you to the party. You must complete the form below or get a paper form in the library for all books that you read. Happy Reading and See you at the pizza party in May.
